Formed after the merger of Eastern Europe and China, the ESU is the most populous of the four major nations and also has had the most aggressive colonisation policy over the past century.

The ESU's most common enemy is the [[../nac/index|NAC]], so ESU fleets tend to be heavy on point defence systems. They also specialist in long range beam weaponry, and are the only fleet to make extensive use of class 4 beam weapons. They favour a mix of armour and shields for defence. Use of fighters is mostly defensive.
