NAC Fleet

The NAC design doctrine favours beam weapons, moderate manoeuvrability and lots of fighters. The list of ship classes currently in service are as follows:

Class Type Mass
Arrow SC 7
Lancer SC 10
Comanche CT 14
Troutbridge FF 20
Cambridge FFT 23
Achilles FFH 26
Tallahachie DD 34
Tulsa DDH 42
Lancaster CL 54
Suffolk CE 64
Tiger CS 70
Battleaxe CH 78
Fearless CVE 80
Renown BC 100
Galahad LSO 120
Thunderer BB 128
Midway CVL 150
Farragut BDN 160
Trafalgar SDN 210
Albion CVB 224
Nimitz CVH 240

Fighters

The NAC has a heavy reliance on fighters, and the carriers are the centre point of their fleets. All NAC fighters make use of advanced engine designs which give them much better endurance than the fighters of other fleets.

Hawk Combat Fighter

Class: Long Range
Speed: 24“
Endurance: 9
Points: 24

Eagle Heavy Fighter

Class: Heavy / Long Range
Speed: 24”
Endurance: 9
Points: 36

Escorts

Arrow Scout

Arrow Scout Arrow Scout

Class: Scout (SC)
Mass: 7
Points: 22
The Arrow scout is designed entirely for non-combative scouting roles. It does carry a single point defence system, but is completely unsuited to handling any real combat situation.

Comanche Corvette

Comanche Corvette Comanche Corvette

Class: Corvette (CT)
Mass: 14
Points: 47
Designed for patrol and customs duty in safe systems, the Comanche is a lightly armed craft that does not often see combat on the front lines, though it may sometimes take on the role of a courier. Though it is slower than the Arrow, it has much greater survival potential, and can take on small pirate vessels or civilian trouble makers.

Troutbridge Frigate

Troutbridge Frigate Troutbridge Frigate

Class: Frigate (FF)
Mass: 20
Points: 67
The Troutbridge is the smallest NAC vessel that is officially considered to be capable of serving in a real battle. It's speed makes it good at harassing the enemy from the sides, though the lack of anything other than short range weapons means it has to risk getting in close. Equipped with two PDS systems, it is also capable of defending itself against fighter attacks.

Cambridge Torpedo Frigate

Cambridge Torpedo Frigate Cambridge Torpedo Frigate

Class: Torpedo Frigate (FFT)
Mass: 23
Points: 81
The Cambridge is a small, fast frigate designed to deliver heavy fire power where it is most needed and least expected. Due to their low survivability, and tendency to be put up against vessels of larger size than them, they are expected to get in, do as much damage as they can, and get out again as quickly as possible.

Achilles Heavy Frigate

Achilles Heavy Frigate Achilles Heavy Frigate

Class: Heavy Frigate (FFH)
Mass: 26
Points: 86
The Achilles class of heavy frigate is an armoured frigate equipped with class 2 beam weapons, with reduced defensive systems compared to the Troutbridge. It's greater range allows it to stay back from combat, and its armour improves survivability, making the Achilles one of the preferred escort class ships amongst crews.

Tallahachie Destroyer

Tallahachie Destroyer Tallahachie Destroyer

Class: Destroyer (DD)
Mass: 34
Points: 112
The Tallahachie is an escort class vessel equipped with medium range weapons mounted on 360 degree turrets which combined with its high thrust, make it an excellent for hit and run tactics. Given its high firepower, it has also been effectively used in anti-piracy roles.

Cruisers

Lancaster Light Cruiser

Lancaster Light Cruiser Lancaster Light Cruiser

Class: Light Cruiser (CL)
Mass: 54
Points: 181
The smallest of the NAC ships to carry shields, the Lancaster carries four class two beam weapons as well as a variety of secondary weapon systems. It is fast and durable.

Suffolk Escort Cruiser

Suffolk Escort Cruiser Suffolk Escort Cruiser

Class: Escort Cruiser (CE)
Mass: 64
Points: 231
The Suffolk class of escort cruiser is designed to be durable, capable of soaking considerable damage whilst defending the ships under its protection. Carrying two shield generators, and an array of ten point defence systems, the Suffolk is an important part of the NAC fleet. It does however sacrifice some speed, having only a thrust four drive, but this is generally enough to keep up with the type of ships it is likely to need to protect.

Battleaxe Heavy Cruiser

Battleaxe Heavy Cruiser Battleaxe Heavy Cruiser

Class: Heavy Cruiser (CH)
Mass: 78
Points: 267
The Battleaxe class of heavy cruisers is designed to deliver maximum firepower onto the enemy. Equipped with pulse torpedoes, as well as class two and three beams, it has considerable forward fire power. However, it has little in the way of side bearing weapon systems, and the initial banks of class one beam turrets were ripped out late in the design process and replaced with two spinal mounted class three beams.

Fearless Escort Carrier

Fearless Escort Carrier Fearless Escort Carrier

Class: CVE (CH)
Mass: 80
Points: 276
The Fearless is the smallest carrier that the NAC fields, often accompanying small patrol fleets or acting as an escort to transports. Though lightly armed, it is equipped with area defence systems, doubling its effectiveness in the escort role. It's primary weapons against ships of the line however is its two fighter groups.

Capital Ships

Renown Battlecruiser

Renown Battlecruiser Renown Battlecruiser

Class: Battlecruiser (BC)
Mass: 100
Points: 338
The Renown class of Battlecruisers goes back to the original battlecruiser concept in design philosophy - it is an eggshell carrying nukes. Faster than other cruisers in the NAC fleet, with more guns than the Thunderer class of battleships, it is not much more durable than a much smaller cruiser. Their forward mounted weapon systems (pulse torpedoes and class 3 beam weapons) have considerable firepower. It is designed to out gun anything smaller than it, and to run away from anything else.

Thunderer Battleship

Thunderer Battleship Thunderer Battleship

Class: Battleship (BB)
Mass: 127
Points: 444
Big, slow and tough, the Thunderer is the NAC's main class of battleship. It has three spinal mount pulse torpedo launchers as its primary weapons, along with three class 3 beam turrets backed by class 2 turrets as secondary systems. It's shields protect it from most beam attacks, but it lacks point defence systems, so often needs to be protected by escort cruisers, or at least fighter screens. Another potential weakness is that it's fire control systems can only track two targets, limiting its options - especially against smaller targets.

Farragut Battledreadnaught

Farragut Battledreadnaught Farragut Battledreadnaught

Class: Battledreadnaught (BDN)
Mass: 159
Points: 511
Armed entirely with ten class 3 beam weapons, the Farragut class is capable of an impressive amount of long range firepower over a wide area. For simplicity of design, it has no secondary weapons, so is weaker at short range combat than similarly classed vessels, but the Farragut is rarely fielded alone, and with a fleet of escort vessels and fighters to support it, this weakness can be difficult to take advantage of.

Trafalgar Superdreadnaught

Trafalgar Superdreadnaught Trafalgar Superdreadnaught

Class: Superdreadnaught (SDN)
Mass: 210
Points: 694
Equipped with a wide range of beam weapons, together with pulse torpedoes and point defence systems, the Trafalgar superdreadnaught is a formidable part of the NAC fleet. It is very much designed for offence, and unlike the SDNs of many other fleets, does not carry fighters.

Albion Battle Carrier

Albion Battle Carrier Albion Battle Carrier

Class: Battle Carrier (CVB)
Mass: 224
Points: 722
The Albion started off as a cross between the Nimitz and Trafalgar classes, but is really just a larger version of the Galahad. Equipped with ortillery systems for planetary bombardment, it carries fighters as well as landing shuttles to give itself a claim to being a carrier. It is more heavily armed than the Nimtiz, but not significantly so. It is also equipped with larger drives, in order to better manoeuvre within the gravity well of a planet.

Nimitz Heavy Carrier

Nimitz Heavy Carrier Nimitz Heavy Carrier

Class: Heavy Carrier (CVH)
Mass: 240
Points: 875
The Nimitz class is the biggest ship in the NAC's fleet, and is a launch platform for the bulk of its fighters. It is never fielded alone, always in the company of escort cruisers, smaller carriers and battleships at the very least. Though it is equipped with good point defence systems, it is not equipped to take on other ships, especially other capital class vessels. Because of this, it tries to stay away from combat as best it can, and rely on its escorts and fighters to protect it. Out of the ten fighter groups it carries, normally two to four are interceptors.

Transports

Galahad Assault Transport

Galahad Assault Transport Galahad Assault Transport

Class: Landing Ship (LSO)
Mass: 120
Points: 307
The Galahad class of orbital assault transport is designed to deliver ground troops to their destination for an attack on planetary targets whilst in contested orbit. It relies upon support craft for protection, but has enough thrust to get in and out quickly. It is also equipped with an array of space to ground ortillery systems, for softening up targets prior to infantry assault. It normally carries a unit of heavy armour, a unit of infantry transports, and two infantry platoons. Equipped with hangers for two orbit to surface shuttles, as well as workshops and support crews to keep them in good condition, the Galahad is often at the forefront of planetary assaults.
