Helione ex Tytalus

Autumn, 1224

The magi of Cruentis Petram manage to investigate the last of the locations of interest close to the covenant. There is a ravine with the dead spirits of an ancient Briton army that were slain by Roman soldiers, who are trying to seek their Queen. It seems to be related to the goblins that they came across several years ago, who thought that they were Arthur and Merlin. It is decided not to leave them alone in case it causes problems.

There is also a magical bear with ruby eyes, and a playful air spirit which inhabits a long cave, generating Auram vis during the seasons it is there. The bear was dealt with peacefully by Vladimir ex Tytalus rushing into its cave and using magic to befriend it. Vladimir's reputation amongst the grogs as a foolhardy hero has increased.

Finally, the resting place of Helione ex Tytalus was investigated. Opening the sealed cave, the magi discover the body of an old woman laying on a stone slab, with a staff lain across her. She is fresh as if alive, but she is not breathing and seems unaffected by magic. It is determined that she is very probably in Twilight. Nearby is a chest, in which are her clothes and a few items, plus a letter which was encrypted with a Caesar's Cypher. The magi are able to break it, and decide to leave her untouched. Columbanus ex Guernicus leaves a second note (similarly encrypted) to inform her that she has been found, and that she is welcome to come see the magi if she awakes from Twilight.

The letter mentioned the body of a rival in the tree outside the cave. Skeletal remains were found, but were otherwise left alone.

The following letter was found in the resting place of the maga Helione ex Tytalus. It was encrypted with a 7 shift Caesar's Cypher, which the magi were able to break. It seemed to be consistent with the history of Helione that was dug up from Tribunal records, and confirm that though the magi may not have been the nicest people, they did seem to be working against demonologists at the covenant of Sursum.

Salve Helione,

It is with deepest regret that I write this letter, but it is also with hope. Should you arise from your Twilight then I hope that you find this letter. I do not know in what state you will awaken, but it has been two moons now since you fell into Twilight, and it is becoming too dangerous to wait around here for much longer. I will make a tomb for you, and lead our enemies away from here.

If it helps, your last spell did break Kaliste’s mind, leaving her body a plaything to my desires. I do hope that a small part of her mind was left, that was able to comprehend the abuses which I subjected her to. She only lasted a week before expiring from internal wounds. I cast some preservations upon her, and placed her within the great oak tree which stands beyond the entrance to this tomb. If you wish to wreck her spirit further, then she is yours to do with as you please.

In the short term, I am heading to Lux Draconis, and will continue our search for the final pieces of the demon shard from there. If I leave that place before your return, then I will leave word with Morridir about where I head next. I believe that Sursum will not seek to act against me whilst I am at Lux Draconis. If luck is with me, then I may still find the pieces before they do, and destroy them.

If you are reading this, then I hope that you faced the challenges of Twilight well. Through strife do we grow.
