Assualt on Boxville

A small detachment of NSL marines in the town of Boxville desperately await reinforcements as a group of insurgent forces descend on the town, seeking to push out the unwanted goverment forces.

The purpose of this game was to determine what sort of effect different levels of troop and equipment quality had on the effectiveness of a force. It was not designed to be a balanced engagement, though it was hoped that it would be balanced enough to be interesting.

To this end, it pitted a small elite force of NSL armour against a disorganised militia army, which both outnumbered and out pointed the NSL.

The Scenario

The battlefield consisted of a long area, with hills at one end and open plains bordered by cliffs at the other. A city was near the hills, and a few rock outcroppings and woods were added to cut down line of site.

The NSL unit which begins in the city was given a rating of veteran/1. All other NSL units were given random leadership and veteran status.

The rebel units were given random unit quality, biased towards green with some regular.

Deployment was first done by the rebel player, who deployed their forces in the hills. Next, the NSL deployed a small unit of infantry in the city.

The first turn of the game consisted entirely of the rebels moving (but not firing). From the second turn onwards, the NSL could bring one unit onto the table each turn (their choice), from the pass in the cliffs far from the city.

The game ended when either the rebels were routed, or the NSL had no infantry to hold the town with. Due to the lack of command units on either side, it was not possible to rally routed units.
